The unique architecture of The Hamsun Centre

With mountains and sky as a backdrop The Hamsun Centre stands on the banks of the Glimma river by the ruins of the old Hamarøy vicarage. The author spent much of his childhood here, surrounded by nature that would later inspire him to write novels such as Pan, Growth of the Soil and Wayfarers. The building was designed by architect Steven Holl and has been awarded or nominated for many architecture prizes and distinctions. Join architect Steven Holl on a guided tour of the building, where he presents his concept of the "building as a body, creating a battlefield for invisible forces". Holl relates how Hamsun's fascinating imagined world inspired him to create his most original building to date!
